Go the distance challenge: FAQs

What is the go the distance challenge?

The go the distance challenge is a virtual fundraising event, where supporters sign up to move a distance of their choice in April, as a way to fundraise for Abortion Support Network. We hope it will be a fun way to get moving this Spring, as well as raising vital funds for our work!

What distance should I move?

You can take part as an individual or as part of a group. For solo challenges, we’ve suggested 100km (which works out as 3.3km per day). For groups, this depends how many people you are and what activity you’d like to do – for example, cycling might allow you to cover more ground than walking or running. We’ve suggested 800km (the distance from Galway to London) or 1,200km (Warsaw to Amsterdam). You can find out more about the distances on the event page.

What support will I have during the challenge?

We hugely value your support in this challenge, and we will support you every step of the way. Everyone who signs up will be able to get one-to-one fundraising support to help you reach your goal, and our fundraising team is on hand to support you with any questions. On the event page you’ll be able to see other participants and track your progress towards your goal. And if you raise £25 towards your goal, we will send you an ASN running top for you to wear for the rest of the challenge.

How does ASN use the funds we raise?

ASN is a small charity tackling a big problem: people across Europe need abortions, but are not able to access them due to bad laws, lack of services, stigma, and cost. The funds you raise will help us provide information, practical support, and financial assistance for people who are forced to travel for an abortion. The impact of your support is incredible: every year our helpline volunteer team are able to support hundreds of people with information, referrals, and financial assistance for those who can’t afford the cost alone.

I am in the clinic and recovering from the surgery, I should leave soon and go home to Poland. What you have done for me is indescribable – you have saved my life. I am very grateful to you and thank you very much for help and devotion to me. I hope that all this will give me even more strength to fight against what is happening in Poland so that each of us can have a choice.

How can I take part?

Head to our event platform to register and create your fundraising page. From there, you’ll be able to join or create a team, and connect your page to your Strava profile which will make it even easier to track your progress.

How do I get started with fundraising?

Once your fundraising page is up and running, a great way to get started is to share your page on social media. You’ll be able to share your page straight away, and then as often as you like in April as you complete your activities. You can also share your page with friends, family and colleagues, and we’ll be able to share your updates too. Make sure you tag ASN on our social media channels!

Who do I contact for support?

Our fundraising team are here to help you from now to the finish line. Send us an email: community@asn.org.uk.
